my family went again on saturday - we were there at around 7-7:30ish and were disappointed to see only six other folks in the place.
This place has really good food and should be a staple for the neighborhood. I'm really worried it's going to close if folks can't make the trek all the way across coney island avenue.
When we walked over there was a wait at the Farm and I couldn't help but wonder why folks wouldn't just go across the street where there was no wait.
Granted the Farm is awesome and we go there too - but I'd really hate to see this place close down.
I've had the same thoughts as Rachel. Can't figure out why people who crowd into the Farm, Pomme de Terre and similar establishments don't patronize Visions. Same quality of food, same prices - why not the same popularity? Granted it's not right on that "prime" area of Cortelyou Rd, but neither is Pomme de Terre which as far as I can see is not hurting for business. It's a bit alarming to see Visions constantly offering deals, which suggests they're having trouble finding customers to fill their restaurant without some kind of incentive. I hope more people will check them out.
Double ditto. Their crab cakes are slamming. I prefer it to the Farm and Pomme de Terre because I don't feel so claustrophobic there. The atmosphere might be lacking but I generally go with friends and we have a good time regardless.
Also, I think that the other places are patronized by a large clientele that come from outside of the neighborhood who are probably not aware of what Visions has to offer.
Lime and Panko Crusted Filet of Sole. Mmmmmmm.
Do go there. I share the sentiment that Visions is distressingly underpopulated. It deserves to thrive!
I think it is a even better place to go with the whole family. The place is very spacious, so when you go with kids you are not on top of the person next to you. My kids love the meatballs and the portions are enough for them to share.
I like the menu. I think we just have to keep posting about it.
Glad to see all the positive comments. Ever since I looked at Visions' menu I've been jonesing for shrimp scampi so we'll go there soon.
BTW, we had a disappointing dinner at PdT recently: huge portions of mediocre food that cost too much, and indifferent-to-hostile service. We won't be back.
quadruple ditto. We are always the only ones in there and I'm left scratching my head after the tasty food has been enjoyed. The waitstaff is always friendly and the prices reasonable. Head on over to dreaded CIA for a good time.
Do folks really need the farmesque ambiance to feel like they're having a good time?? Or is it just psychological that if you don't have to wait 30 minutes to be seated, it can't be worth visiting?
I think it's the non hip factor. All these new restaurants have a certain "look". Unfortunately, Visions looks more like well.. a standard restaurant. No hip art on the wall. No cool barnwood counter or tables. No funky flea market find mix of chairs. No cool logo-emblazoned tshirts for staff. No neat custom wood deck out back. No Scandinavian-architect-designed interior.
Sounds silly right? But one has to admit; it attracts a certain crowd. I think Visions may have an identity crisis too. Visions sounds like a strip bar, quite simply. People remember when it was a place that you could never peer in. Now, the mahogony look is more TGIFriday's than funky cool new Brooklyn.
Does Visions want to attract the young hip crowd? Or are they happy with the crowds it does attract? (Not saying that those who go aren't young and hip, but for the most part, it seems that group prefers to go elsewhere).
P.S. Look at CT Muffin. They changed their look pretty quickly when they found it wasn't working. Sit down restaurant wasn't competing. So they made it more loungey (altho, I still find it a little more sterile than i like), put in some sofas and chairs. It's doing far better now than if they left tables there.
We love Visions!!!!
