Beverley Gyro Cart

I've been curious for a little while about the new cart on the northwest corner of Beverley and Coney Island Avenue, across the street from Madina, and stopped by tonight to check it out.

The cartman (?) said he specializes, he said, in "Middle Eastern" food, which seems to include everything from falafel to gyro, as well as shish kebab, lamb on rice, and Philly cheesesteak, all with a Pakistani tilt.

The $4 chicken gyro was pretty good, though the spicy sauce wasn't exactly Greek.

The cart is also, its operator said, unrelated to Madina. It's connected to Punjab, a restaurant a bit further down Coney owned by the cartman's uncle. He said it was the first Pakistani restaurant in Brooklyn, having opened in the mid-1980s.
