Thank you to all who came out this weekend to help plant daffodils and crocuses along Cortelyou. Special thanks to Stacey, Jan, Tracey, Erica and Josh for braving the bitter cold wind on Saturday morning to start the planting. On Saturday we planted the block between Argyle and Rugby, both sides of the street, and on Sunday, with help from many more neighbors (the Flatbush Gardener has photos and names) we managed to plant the blocks between the Q stop and Rugby. We did give up on one of the old trees, it was basically impossible to get the shovel in. But it was a fantastic community effort, and much fun.
So this coming Saturday, we'll meet in front of the library at 10am and then start planting the block from Argyle to Westminster, and then Westminster to Stratford to CIA, if we get enough help we could hope to finish on Saturday so everyone can attend the meeting on starting a community garden on Sunday, the 11th. If you come later in the day, just walk along those blocks and see how far we've gotten. Yesterday we finished around 1pm.
Now I have the task of devising a sign to post at each tree that would encourage people not to litter in the tree pits, and to curb their dogs. Any graphic designers out there that know how to send a strong message that we care about our trees and flowers? Email me at the ditmasparkblog at gmail.com.

Let's hope the daffodils actually come up at the RIGHT TIME OF YEAR next year!!
Know what I mean..??
;->...
kudos to everyone who participated (I confess to having taken a pass, and I'll be out of town next weekend as well). The condition of the tree pits has been a constant annoyance to me, but all I ever did about it was mutter to myself as I walked down the street!
