Car-Free(r) Park

The city cut the hours during which cars can use Prospect Park yesterday, basically limiting them to the East Drive during the morning rush and the west drive during the evening rush.

Since they closed the Third Street entrance a year ago, I've stopped driving through the park, altogether. Either the keep all the entrances open - or closed. Seemed like pandering to a bunch of self-important Slopers. And added 15 minutes onto my morning commute.

as someone who commutes through the park every day on bike, whats the point if I have to still deal with cars. As the first poster said, either leave it all open or all closed.

Half a loaf is better than no loaf at all. I'd like a total ban. But limiting it in this way IS a step forward that should be welcomed.

I disagree. Park is equipped with roads, and cars should be permitted to use them for a measly four hours a day during rush hour. People schlepping 4 young kids back and forth to school can't exactly hop on bikes, even if we'd prefer to for other reasons.
